Vera Selitser

Registered Psychotherapist, Clinical Pharmacist

Welcome, and thank you for your trust. A little bit about me:

I am trained both as a psychotherapist and as a clinical pharmacist. Over the two decades of my experience in optimizing medication therapy for hospital and long-term care patients, I have acquired a wide spectrum of expertise, supporting patients through cancer treatment, psychiatric illness, insomnia, depression, anxiety and stress. I have completed certification training in management of depression and anxiety in cancer patients, smoking cessation, diabetes management, ADHD management, and geriatric medicine, and I am proficient with medications used in fertility treatments.

While helping treat physical illness, it always felt like a piece was missing. With every patient I listened to, I appreciated psychosomatics more, both for its power to cause illness and for its potential for healing. A whole person was in front of me, while I was only trained to view their physical being.

So, I went back to school and learned about “the other half”. I gained a broad range of knowledge in psychotherapy, from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) – brief yet effective treatment models, to more analytical approaches. I am a Certified Anxiety Informed Professional (CAIP), Certified Reproductive Mental Health Specialist (CRMHS), a sex therapy informed professional, and my practice is Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed. I am skilled in supporting clients experiencing grief and loss. My own fertility journey and later-age motherhood have enriched my training in fertility-related counselling.

I provide individual, couples & family and group therapy, and I work well with teenagers, adults and seniors.

The interdisciplinary perspective empowers my clients with a comprehensive view of their issues, which at times brings us stunning surprises. The girl with anxiety and anger outbursts does not need to waste years in effort to control it – she needs extended bloodwork, to have the thyroid disorder driving her mood diagnosed. The senior executive does not need to retire because of her worsening OCD and irritable bowel – she just needs to change some of her diet and lifestyle routine. The gentleman with recurrent ulcers can realize that his distressing work environment is fueling his disease. These are just a few snapshots of what gets missed when we only listen to one of the voices in the mind-body duo.

It is my mission to find those missing links, and help my clients aim their efforts well. Once you figure out the “what”, you will find your own way to the “how”, and I will support you on the path you choose.
